When playing blackjack your betting strategy will be very different playing online versions of the game than when playing live. In a live game a player can create different advantages that can help them lower the edge that the house has over them. Players can learn to count cards or shuffle track the deck to decide when the best time is to increase their bets, but when playing online a different approach is required.
Online blackjack games are electronic so decks are dealt after each game, making counting impossible. There’s no way to track how that deck is dealt, so shuffle tracking is just as impossible to achieve. Having the luxury of playing blackjack in the comfort of your own home eliminates these potential edges, but even when playing online there are still ways to increase your chance of winning.
Learn the Basics First
Rule No.1 to know if you want to win at blackjack is to learn basic strategy for the online game that you’ve chosen to play. Learning basic blackjack strategy will allow you make the best move in every possible situation so that the house has the smallest possible edge over you. Proper basic blackjack strategy will lower the house edge down to less than a half percent, and over time that will make a big difference in your win/loss results.
Basic strategy can be learned by studying blackjack charts that display the best move for you to make for every hand combination. The charts are readily available online and the important thing to remember is to choose the chart that matches the game you’re playing. There are automated software programs that will tell you the right plays to make, but these programs don’t help you very much when you periodically take your game to a local casino.
Once you learn basic strategy, and you have your charts in front of you or memorized, then playing the game is easy. From there you will want to try and change your betting strategies for blackjack to reap the most rewards possible. There are no betting strategies for blackjack that will always work, but some creative betting at the right time will allow you to win at blackjack.
More Advanced Strategies to Win at Blackjack
You may have heard of players that use betting strategies for blackjack like doubling their bet after every losing hand. The idea is that you will eventually win a hand and recover all your losses, plus your original bet. This system is known as negative progressive betting and sounds good in theory but both live and online casinos have maximum betting limits on a table, and unless you recover your losses before the limit prevents you from doubling your bet again the system will prove useless.
Some players like the opposite to the negative progressive betting system and will double their bet after every win. The idea is to take full advantage of a winning streak; the only problem is you will eventually lose a hand and the biggest bet you have out there. It’s like letting it ride every time, and that will only lead to eventually going bust.
Deciding when to raise or lower the size of your bets is the key to winning. Many players like to change their bet after a streak of hands that have won or lost. If you lose three hands in a row at a certain amount then raising your bet for a few hands could recover those loses quickly.
The same goes for a string of winning hands. If you win three or four hands in row it might make sense to lower your bets for the next few hands. That way when your luck turns around, as it always will, you won’t be risking as much and you will come out on the upside in the end. Winning with this type of system would be pure luck, like any other system, but it does make the game more fun and at least gives you the feeling of control over your blackjack destiny.
